Tryout Season: Finding the Best Fit, Not the Perfect Club

As tryout season kicks off, let’s set the record straight—there is no perfect club. What you’re looking for is the best fit for your player and your family dynamic—right now. Clubs change, teams evolve, and so do your kid’s needs.

Yeah, the grass might be greener on the other side… or you might just be swapping one dirt patch for another. Sometimes, that’s necessary. But don’t wait until tryout week to figure that out. Those dates are chaotic, and you won’t get the full picture. If you’re switching clubs or going competitive for the first time, get ahead of the game. Request to train with a team. Watch their games. See if players are actually applying what they’ve learned in practice. Observe the coach—do they teach or just yell? Pay attention to the sideline energy—are the parents cool, or are they the reason refs retire early?

I’ve put together a Competitive Club Evaluation Form—a no-fluff guide to help you make the best decision. No right or wrong answers, just the facts. For the real talk— chat with parents who’ve been in the trenches. New families and veteran parents will give you different insights, and trust me, you want both.

If you're intrested in something specific I should discuss, hit me up at —because the Soccer Mom Mafia looks out for each other. ⚽🔥

Soccer Tryout

As a mom of five deeply immersed in the soccer world—from rec leagues to elite competition—I’ve seen it all. Navigating the highs, the setbacks, and the ever-changing game has given me a front-row seat to what it takes to raise ballers both on and off the field. My goal is to equip parents with the insight, tools, and perspective to support their athletes the right way—no sideline panic attacks required.
